PROLONGED EXPOSURE THERAPY

Dr. Michael Dadson (Mike Dadson), recognizes that “Most people are not familiar with neurofeedback and the benefits it has on the brain and overall functionality.” Neurofeedback is the retraining and optimization of your brainwave patterns to help with overall processing and learning in order to improve overall neurological functioning.

Brainwave pattern targets are set to improve mood, control of emotions, self -regulation, reduce the feelings of anxiety, and enhance your ability to learn. Dr. Mike Dadson put this in simple terms: “When you learn how to control your brainwave patterns, you can have better brain function through neurofeedback.” During the process, your only job is to let the LENS program examine your current brainwave activity and automatically adjust to the optimum positive neurofeedback you create. “It is like having a dislocated bone put back in place. There is relief, but with LENS it happens without the discomfort.”

Dr. Michael Dadson explains, “Our technician place small wires called electrodes on your scalp (there is no pain involved) which have a tiny metal disk attached.” An Electroencephalography (EEG – electrical activity of your brain) is fed-back to a computer where it is processed to determine existing brain functioning and if you are meeting the desired targets for improved brain function. Dr. Dadson identifies further “the data is sent back to a computer program that quickly analyses your brainwave patterns. It shows you your existing pattern and automatically sends a signal back to your brain so that it adjusts and responds to the desired improved brain function targets.”

Research has shown we have the ability to change our brain patterns of thought to meet the desired targeted changes in brain, which in turn improves specifically targeted and overall brain functioning.

Prolonged Exposure Therapy in Brookswood, Langley

Prolonged Exposure Therapy is often used to treat
trauma/post-traumatic stress disorder commonly known as PTSD.

When this approach is used carefully, it can be a highly effective treatment for the associated anxiety, depression and anger issues. Dr. Michael Dadson (Mike Dadson) points out, “There is substantial research carried out over 20 years, embracing the use of prolonged exposure therapy.”

Dr. Dadson has advanced experience as therapist and as a trainer incorporating this approach in treatment with military veterans, first responders, and the general population suffering from PTSD.

Dr. Mike Dadson states, “Prolonged exposure therapy is founded on the basic cognitive-behavioural concepts, and is a versatile form of therapy that can be adapted to fit your needs and can be crafted to address and process the circumstances of your trauma.”

The goal of this treatment is not to re-enact a traumatic even but rather to provide the resources needed to tolerate a traumatic experience by titrating exposure and carefully exploring and adding missing resources.

“Prolonged exposure therapy teaches you to slowly address your trauma, your memories of the trauma, the feelings you had during the trauma, and the situations associated with the trauma,”Dr. Michael Dadson (Mike Dadson) explains. It is believed that traumatic memories may cause faulty stimuli responses and associations related to the event, which may form a barricade to your ability to emotionally process the traumatic event.

Dr. Michael Dadson is highly specialized in the treatment areas of trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder. A counseling session with Dr. Michael Dadson begins with understanding your past experiences and a review with you, of treatment approaches that will suit you in counseling.
